Some recent events saw attackers utilizing authorized contracts like Multicall of Uniswap V3 to organize phishing attacks, as per Scam Sniffer (a Web3 anti-scam forum). The platform disclosed these events on its official X account.
Scam Sniffer Discloses the Use of Uniswap by the Wallet Exploiters for Phishing Scams
In one of its latest X posts, the company mentioned that a victim reportedly lost up to eighty-five Lido ETH. The exploiters potentially used similar tactics to drain away the holdings of that individual. The respective incident took place nearly five days back. According to Scam Sniffer, the target consented to a Permit signature while the mentioned spender was a Uniswap Multicall contract. In this way, the attacker used the legitimate source to exploit the victim.
Following that, the drainer started a transfer to transact assets. It denoted this as the aggregate function of Multicall. The respective operation incorporated activities like permission and transaction ‘from’ address of the assets. Scam Sniffer added that Multicall has a feature to confront the MEV bots. For this purpose, it additionally looks for whether the ‘from’ address operates under the drainer.

Despite this feature, Scam Sniffer added, the hazard of front-running continues. This takes into account the parsing of the Permit signature as well as front-running it. Following that incident took place, the attacker made another move. As Scam Sniffer puts it, the attacker used the Multicall contract’s exclusive version a couple of days back.
