In the last month, a significant decrease has reportedly taken place in phishing attacks in the crypto world. Scam Sniffer, an anti-scam platform for the Web3 sector, has published its report for April 2024 concerning crypto phishing scams, showing a huge dip in losses. The platform noted on its X account that April saw losses of nearly $38M at the hands of 34,000 victims.

Scam Sniffer Discloses Huge Decrease in April’s Phishing Attacks in Crypto
In a series of posts, the company provided the details of the respective report. It noted that the above-mentioned losses indicate up to a 46% slump in comparison with the month before April. Nonetheless, Scam Sniffer added, the individual losses present another outlook. As per the platform, irrespective of the general decline in the losses, the Base chain witnessed large losses.
It added that the Base chain reportedly went through approximately a 145% increase in losses in comparison with March. It is noteworthy that a couple of the ten major single thefts took place on the Base chain. These attacks reportedly account for almost twenty-one percent of the cumulative theft in April. Scam Sniffer moved on to note that a massive eighty-eight percent of the outflowing assets included ERC20 coins.
According to the anti-scam platform, the majority of the attacks took place because of the phishing signatures. They took into account Uniswap Permit2, IncreaseAllowance, and Permit. As a result of this, many people experienced considerable losses. In this respect, Scam Sniffer advised the common masses to do additional research while dealing with the respective signatures.
Crypto Exploiters Use Authentic Contracts for Their Crypto Phishing Attacks
It added that several accounts on the social media platform X are posting exploitative comments. The scammers still utilize this as their chief method to deceive the victims. Irrespective of the increased phishing alerts by the wallets for particular signatures, wallet exploiters are continuously devising new methodologies.
They are reportedly exploring the options to deal with such alerts by using authenticated contracts. They take into account Uniswap Multicall, Disperse, and value normalization variants. Keeping all this in view, Scam Sniffer asserted that phishing continues to pose a big threat to normal consumers in the crypto world. Hence, it advised the users to ensure their safety.
