Crypto market saw a mild plunge in June 2025, driven by worldwide market uncertainty. However, as per the data from Coinbase’s Coinbase 50 Index (COIN50), the DeFi sector led the crypto sector as it recorded a significant increase in total value locked (TVL). The prominent crypto exchange took to social media to share insights into the overall market scenario over June 2025.

COIN50 DeFi Market Goes through a 10.9% Upsurge
In line with the Coinbase 50 Index, which is a benchmark dealing with fifty biggest cryptocurrencies on Coinbase, June went through a modest dip of 1.12% throughout this month. Irrespective of the pullback, COIN50 sustained a robust 90-day profit of up to 18.34%, denoting resilience of the wider market amid an otherwise fluctuating 2nd quarter. As per the market data, decentralized finance (DeFi) has become a top-performing landscape, getting 10.9% rise in June.
Particularly, the world of decentralized finance has seen a broader surge as a result of the increase in its total value locked (TVL). Additionally, the heightened consumer engagement across many protocols also significantly contributed to this upsurge. Along with that, Aerodrome Finance emerged as the leading platform in the DeFi sector. Hence, it presented a 56.17% return over the same period.
The respective performance has taken place following Base, an L2 network getting support from Coinbase, purchased a significant position in the token of Aerodrome. This underscores wide-scale institutional interest as well as likely strategic alignment with the ecosystem of Base. However, in addition to this, other DeFi projects like Maker, Compound, Uniswap Protocol Token, and Aave also witnessed considerable gains.
Uniswap Protocol Token Accounts for 16.10% Jump Following Increased Platform Charges
According to COIN50, Uniswap Protocol Token jumped by 16.10%, led by a surge in platform fees and trading activity. Subsequently, Maker made a 21.98% rise, leveraging enhanced stability mechanisms while also benefiting from increasing demand for the $DAI stablecoin thereof. Moreover, Compound and Aave indicated 9.18% and 7.91%. Thus, irrespective of the provisional pressure, the DeFi ecosystem beheld increased investor sentiment, specifically in the projects having institutional backing and resilient fundamentals.
