EURGBP Range Resistance Holding, Another Breakout Attempt Soon?

EURGBP has been stuck in a well-defined range since late July, bouncing between resistance at 0.85792 and support at 0.8543.

Price recently tagged the upper boundary once again before pulling back, suggesting the pair could be gearing up for another test of the range floor unless buyers can force a clean breakout.

Currently priced around 0.8571, EURGBP is retreating from the range top, and a break below the moving averages could open the door to a slide back toward the 0.8543 support.

If that floor holds once more, buyers could attempt to send price back up to retest resistance at 0.8579 or higher. A measured move rally off the range low, projected using the height of the range, could see EURGBP push modestly beyond the resistance zone if a genuine breakout materializes.

On the other hand, a decisive close below 0.8543 could confirm a breakdown, with a measured move selloff targeting levels well below the recent range based on the range’s overall height.

The 100 SMA and 200 SMA have been crossing back and forth throughout this consolidation, reflecting the lack of a clear directional bias. Most recently, the 100 SMA crossed above the 200 SMA, hinting that the path of least resistance could tilt slightly to the upside, although both averages remain close together and could flip again if selling pressure returns.

Stochastic is curling down from the overbought zone, showing early signs of fading bullish momentum, though the oscillator has been whipsawing between overbought and oversold extremes throughout this consolidation, consistent with the choppy, rangebound price action. RSI is hovering near the midpoint, offering no strong directional conviction at the moment, which reinforces the idea that EURGBP remains indecisive.

Until either boundary gives way convincingly, this back-and-forth pattern is likely to persist, with traders watching for a decisive close outside the range to signal the next directional move.
