Microsoft computers use the Windows operating system, and these come with a software known as the Remote Desktop Computer (RDC). The remote desktop computer allows the user to connect the home device with an external device such as a forex virtual private server (forex VPS), allowing for the transfer of critical functions such as automated trading from the home computer to the remote computer or remote server.
The coming of smartphones and tablet devices has been a game changer in terms of how remote servers are deployed. Now, the remote desktop computer software has been repackaged into an application which is compatible with devices that work on the Android operating system (Android OS). This software is known as the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) app for Android-based devices, and can be downloaded from the Google Play store.
This RDC app allows the user to connect a smartphone or tablet device that runs on the Android OS to a remote server or a forex virtual private server that is Windows based. Therefore, the intention of this short guide is to provide a template to enable you know how to use a forex VPS on your Android mobile devices. It becomes even more important because many forex trading platforms such as the MT4 also have mobile apps. So it makes sense to be able to use these forex applications on a forex VPS, and the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) app is the way to go.
Gaining Access to a Forex VPS from an Android device using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Application requires the following steps:
- Downloading the RDC App on the Android Device
- Setting up the RDC
- Connecting the RDC to your forex VPS so you can run your forex apps on the remote server.
Step 1: Accessing the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) App for Android
The remote desktop application is not a native app on Android devices. In other words, unlike a Windows PC which already comes with the RDC, you need to download the RDC application unto the Android device from the Google Play store.
All Android devices come preloaded with the Play Store app. So accessing the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) app for Android is easy. All that needs to be done is to scroll through your Android phone to locate the Play Store app icon. Click on it to visit the Google Play store and search for the app using the phrase “Microsoft RDC Android”. This action requires that you are connected to the internet.
Download the Remote Desktop Connection app, then open the app. Accept the user agreement and proceed to setup the connection.
Step 2: Setting Up the Remote Desktop App on Your Android Device
Once you have the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on your Android device, the next step is to setup your forex VPS connection on your RDC app. It is assumed that you have already paid for a forex VPS hosting account from your provider. Usually, your provider sends you the some information after payment such as:
- Connection name: The name of your connection (which is usually the name of your forex VPS provider).
- PC name: This is usually the hosting address of your forex VPS. It comes in a unique format that looks like this: ip2-001.alt.hosting.com
- Gateway: No gateway is configured as this is not a compulsory requirement for the setup.
- User name: “Administrator” is usually left as the username. e
- Password: Your forex VPS password
These details will be entered at relevant stages of the setup process.
Step 3: Connecting to the Forex VPS Using the RDC App on Your Android Device
The first step in connecting the forex VPS to the RDC app is to add the forex VOS connection. Tap the icon of the RDC app to open it on your Android device. On the interface of the app, click the “+” sign. A dropdown menu will present two items: Desktop and Remote Resource Feed. Select “Desktop” to add/setup a new connection.
The next page on the Remote Desktop Computer app interface presents a form with some fields on it. The first field is marked “PC name”. Here, you will be required to enter the host name or IP address of your forex VPS. So get the IP of your forex VPS provider (format has already been shown above) and use it as your PC name.
Enter this information, then click on the small arrow in the second field marked username. Select the radio button which says “Add User account”. You will be shown a space for a username and password. The username is usually the word “Administrator”. If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 10, then the username should be “Admin”. Next, enter the password for your forex VPS account as sent by your forex VPS provider. Ensure you tap on the check-mark symbol to save the connection profile, then tap on the “Save” button to save all the information so you do not have to enter them again on the next login.
You can now use the saved profile to open your remote connection so that you can be linked to the forex VPS provider.
Occasionally, a warning pop-ups concerning a secure certificate. This should be ignored as the server generates its own SSL certificate. Cross check the details displayed on the pop-up warning. If all is ok, you can decide to accept the certificate by clicking the “Connect” tab. If you suspect that the message has been sent as a result of an intrusion, click Cancel to start the process all over again.
You will now be able to login to the forex VPS anytime you tap on the Microsoft RDC app; it connects you straightaway.
So that is all. You can now login to your forex VPS via the remote desktop app on your Android tablet or smartphone.
Please note: you can setup numerous instances of the forex VPS from various providers using this format. Ensure you save them properly. Next time you login to the remote desktop connection, the various forex VPS will be displayed as a list. Simply tap the one you want to connect to and you will be connected.
