In a recent report by CoinGecko, Solana has emerged as the fastest blockchain, achieving the highest daily average transactions per second (TPS). Solana leads with a staggering 1,053 TPS, followed by Sui at 854 TPS, and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) at 378 TPS. This impressive performance places Solana significantly ahead of other major blockchains.
Solana Memecoin Mania Surge Highlights Scalability Potential
Solana’s actual daily average TPS reached a remarkable 1,504 on April 6, 2024, during the height of the memecoin craze. This makes Solana 46 times faster than Ethereum, which records a TPS of 22.8, and more than five times faster than Polygon, the fastest Ethereum scaling solution at 190 TPS.
Despite this, Solana has only achieved 1.6% of its theoretical maximum speed of 65,000 TPS, highlighting the potential for further growth. The network’s high transaction volume has led to occasional congestion, and it remains to be seen how upcoming upgrades will impact Solana’s real TPS.
CoinGecko’s report underscores that non-EVM blockchains are, on average, nearly four times faster than EVM-compatible blockchains. Sui, a non-EVM blockchain, ranks second with 854 TPS, driven by the popularity of the onchain game Sui 8192. Other notable non-EVM blockchains include TON at 175 TPS and Near Protocol at 117 TPS. In contrast, Bitcoin, another non-EVM, registers a modest 10.7 TPS.
The average peak TPS for the eight largest non-EVM blockchains is 284, compared to just 74 TPS for the 17 largest EVM and EVM-compatible blockchains.
EVM Blockchains See Record TPS Amid Growing Adoption
BNB Smart Chain (BSC) leads the EVM blockchains with a TPS of 378, recorded during a surge in onchain activity on December 7, 2023. Polygon follows with a TPS of 190, achieved on November 16, 2023, making it the fastest among Ethereum scaling solutions. Despite their performance, these blockchains still fall short of the speeds seen in Solana and Sui.
Trending Now: Bitcoin Gathers Momentum, Prolonged Bullish Trend Expected
Notably, 24 out of the 25 blockchains surveyed achieved their highest real TPS within the past 12 months. This surge reflects the growing adoption and increased activity within the blockchain ecosystem. From Tron’s peak on June 12, 2023, to zkLink Nova’s most recent high on May 13, 2024, the trend indicates a rapidly evolving landscape.
CoinGecko’s report highlights significant advancements in blockchain transaction speeds, with Solana leading the charge. As non-EVM blockchains continue to outpace their EVM counterparts, the future of blockchain scalability and efficiency looks promising.
