Forex Technical Major Pairs Analysis | August 31, 2026

USDX (USD Index)

The U.S. dollar index turned lower today, giving up part of previous Friday’s bullish jump. The index continues to rely on the daily SMA 200 as its primary support level, while overhead resistance remains firmly established near the 100.00 handle. Price action is currently consolidating between these key technical boundaries. A failure to hold above the SMA 200 would signal a resumption of downside pressure, whereas a sustained breakout above 100.00 is required to open up further room for a broader recovery.

EUR/USD managed a rebound off the 1.1580 support level and is now advancing toward the daily SMA 200 overhead. The pair stands at a critical technical junction. A breakdown below 1.1580 would confirm bearish continuation and target lower support near 1.1500. Alternatively, if buyers manage to push price action above the 1.1710 resistance level, it would invalidate immediate downside risks and allow the pair to continue its broader bullish move.

Today’s critical levels to watch:

Support: 1.1580, 1.1500, 1.1360, 1.1300

Resistance: 1.1710, 1.1820, 1.2000, 1.2070

GBP/USD

GBP/USD made a bullish attempt during today’s session, but price action quickly pulled back off its intraday highs. The failure to hold higher levels indicates underlying selling pressure near overhead resistance. The market is now evaluating whether the pair will turn lower from here to target the 1.3450 support level. A decisive move below current levels would reinforce the bearish bias for the sessions ahead.

Today’s critical levels to watch:

Support: 1.3450, 1.3330, 1.3300, 1.3250

Resistance: 1.3600

USD/JPY

After posting a new higher high late last week, USD/JPY is trading slightly lower today as buyer momentum takes a breather. Despite the minor pullback, the directional focus remains on the downside structure. Traders continue to wait for the pair to extend its downward movement and achieve a clear break below the daily SMA 200, which would confirm stronger downside momentum and set up the next bearish phase.

Today’s critical levels to watch:

Support: 158.89, 155.50

Resistance: 160.00, 161.18, 162.00

AUD/USD

Previous Friday’s bearish engulfing pattern near 0.7160 signaled a potential top for the current upward leg. However, there has been no immediate bearish follow-through today, leaving the pair consolidating near key structural levels. If sellers step back in and drive the pair lower, a break below immediate support would direct price action toward the 0.7000 target. Until then, price action remains capped near resistance as the market seeks directional confirmation.

Today’s critical levels to watch:

Support: 0.7160, 0.7000, 0.6820, 0.6750, 0.6700, 0.6600

Resistance: 0.7300, 00.7330
