In a disheartening surge of fraudulent activities, scammers have once again exploited the crypto space, executing what is commonly known as the ‘Rugpull’ scam. This deceitful practice of rugpull scams involves the creation of fake tokens, enticing users to invest, only to disappear with both the funds and the value of the token, leaving investors with significant losses.

This morning, blockchain security firm PeckShield detected three such incidents, each involving the fraudulent launch of tokens with the intention of manipulating users and absconding with the invested capital.
1st Incident: Sleepless AI $AI Plummets -97.5%
The first incident involves Sleepless AI $AI, a token that purportedly dropped by a staggering 97.5%. The address 0xB359…6f3d was identified as the source, swapping a colossal 1,000,000,000,000 $AI for 37.7 $ETH, equivalent to approximately $91,000. Notably, the #rugpull token shared the same name as the legitimate Sleepless AI $AI, which hasn’t officially launched yet. Despite being in the Binance Launchpad’s launch pool with ongoing farming activities, some investors fell victim to the trap due to a lack of awareness.

2nd Incident: FomoFi $FOMO Plunges -100%
The second incident involves FomoFi $FOMO, a token that experienced a complete crash, dropping by 100%. The address 0xB3Ff…47DD orchestrated the rugpull, swapping an astronomical 5,370,814,630,572.9 $FOMO for 189.6K $BSC-USD. Similar to the first case, the #rugpull token shared its name with a legitimate project, raising suspicions due to the absence of listings on reputable exchanges and the lack of recognition on CoinMarketCap.

3rd Incident: NebulaNode $NNNN Faces -100% Drop
The third reported incident involves NebulaNode $NNNN, witnessing a drastic 100% drop. The deployer address 0xFDA4…EA74 was responsible for swapping an immense 100,100,100,100,100,100,100.1001 $NNNN for 1,033.8 $BNB, amounting to $335,900. Once again, the #rugpull token shares its name with legitimate projects. NebulaNode $NNNN is listed on CoinGeco Terminal and CoinMarketCap, but the latter cautions users to ‘Do Your Own Research’ (DYOR) due to an automatic on-chain listing.

As these incidents unfold, it underscores the importance of due diligence within the crypto community. Investors are urged to thoroughly research and verify the legitimacy of projects before engaging in any transactions. The crypto space continues to be a breeding ground for innovative projects, but caution remains paramount in protecting oneself from malicious actors.
