Hackers Steal $21M From DeFi Platforms in 1 Month
December Records Cryptocurrency Losses of $76M Compared with November’s $194.27M
The on-chain data discloses that December 2025 saw the loss of $76M in crypto hacks, indicating a 60% decrease in valuation in comparison with November. In particular, in November, the hackers reportedly drained $194.27M from the market via such activities. Nonetheless, irrespective of the decrease, December’s high-profile incidents show the existing vulnerabilities related to decentralized protocols, multisig accounts, and wallets.
Specifically, the leak of private keys and wallet address poisoning were the top among the most damaging exploits. Thus, the crypto wallet “0xcB8…819” alone incurred a massive $50M loss via address poisoning. Additionally, the multisig “0xde5…965” lost $27.3M because of compromised private keys. The rest of the noteworthy exploits took into account “babur.sol,” Unleash Protocol, Flow Blockchain, and TrustWallet. The loss of “babur.sol” reached $22M while the others lost $3.9M each.
Apart from that, diverse projects also went through huge losses. Hence, Holograph topped the list with $37.3M while Inferno and Transit Wallet witnessed $22.2M and $6.6M in their respective losses. Additionally, Raft and Unibot frontends lost $3.3M each while Velodrome and Aerodrome frontends underwent an overall $6.7M loss in multiple attacks.
Crypto Laundering Raises Need for Stronger Protective Measures to Prevent Further Losses
According to PeckShieldAlert, throughout December, the platform tracked the stolen funds movement, detecting the way attackers tried to obscure trails. So, the exploiters mostly used Tornado Cash, shifting 4,250 $ETH in total. Along with that, $5M in the form of $MATIC, $USDT, $ETH, and $BTC was reportedly laundered via exchanges like Huobi, KuCoin, and ChangeNOW. Overall, while the year 2026 is moving forward, these incidents raise the requirement for increased wallet protections, fund monitoring, and secure private keys to minimize future risks.
