Gain Capital reports OTC Forex Volumes Rises 10.2% In June

The owner of institutional GTX, City Index and Forex.com (retail forex brokerage brands), Gain Capital, is enjoying a successful stint in the forex industry. Earlier this month, Gain Capital gave a statement that its OTC (over-the-counter) forex volumes for last month, June, stood at $241.8 billion. That represents a 10.2% increase compared to May volumes as well as 4.4% yearly increase.

On average, the daily volume raised by 15.8% per month to $11 billion. That is a tremendous increase which represents a whopping 4.8% increase over the year.

However, at the same time, the number of accounts that executed at least one transaction in the last 12 months (over-the-counter active accounts) dropped to 134,120 from May. In terms of percentage, the drop is 0.7%.

Unfortunately, the Gain Capital GTX’s institutional branch performance in June was not that pleasing. According to the data obtained, the ECN trading volume went down by 3.7% from May to stand at $238.1 billion. Though on yearly basis, it grew 12.2 %.

The company’s swap dealership volume fell to $32 billion from May representing a percentage drop of 46.1%. When that performance is compared with that of last June, the swap dealership volume dropped 40.1%.

Similarly, the futures segment followed suit. Although the segment trade rose over the month to 582,598 contracts which represent 10.3% increase, the futures contracts dropped 19.9% year-on-year.

The Gain Capital Group which was established in 2003 took 7 years before it was enlisted on the NYSE to become public in 2010. It serves institutional and retail clients under their trading brands that include Gain Capital, City Index, and Forex.com.
