SBI Holdings, a renowned financial services platform in Japan, has officially obtained a majority stake in Coinhako, a crypto exchange based in Singapore. The development comes after SBI Holdings acquired regulatory authorization from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. As SBI Holdings pointed out in its official press release, the transfer was accomplished on the 16th of July via the merger of a buyout of shares from shareholders and a capital injection. Hence, Coinhako has now become SBI Holdings’ consolidated subsidiary, fortifying its footprint within the digital asset industry of Southeast Asia.

SBI Bolsters Expansion in APAC via Coinhako Acquisition
SBI Holdings’ acquisition of a majority stake in Coinhako highlights the rising significance of Singapore as a hub for regulated blockchain innovation. The platform executed the acquisition via SBI Ventures Asset Pte. Ltd. It secured the needed authorizations from Singapore’s MAS ahead of investing in Holdbuild Pte. Ltd., the parent company of Coinhako. The move reportedly serves as a landmark in the platform’s strategy to develop a resilient digital asset network within the Asia-Pacific area.
Coinhako is among the pioneering crypto entities in Singapore and has developed a notable reputation by working within a resilient regulatory model. Hako Technology Pte. Ltd., which is its subsidiary, has a Major Payment Institution license that MAS has issued. This allows it to deliver compliant digital payment token operations.
Alpha Hako Ltd. is another group entity that holds a registration as a crypto asset service platform under the British Virgin Islands’ Financial Services Commission. As Yoshitaka Kitao, the President and Chairman of SBI Holdings, mentioned, the platform’s vision is to develop a worldwide digital asset gateway to enable streamlined cross-border investment opportunities.
Driving Regulated Digital Finance in Southeast Asia
The executive added that Singapore is a prominent jurisdiction when it comes to the regulation of digital assets. According to Yusho Liu, the CEO and Co-founder of Coinhako, joining SBI is a key step in commencing the next chapter of the platform’s growth. Ultimately, the partnership would fortify Coinhako’s capability to provide compliant, next-gen, and trusted digital financial services, benefiting consumers within Southeast Asia via the inclusive financial network of SBI.
