USD jumps to a one-week high ahead of economic growth data

USD jumped on Friday to a one-week high against a basket of world currencies to continue its gains for a second day in a row, supported by a rise in long-term US bond yields to a six-week high, ahead of the world’s biggest economic growth data for the quarter. Second, the data is expected to strengthen the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will accelerate monetary policy tightening this year.

The dollar index rose 0.2% to 11: 40 GMT, trading at 94.65 points, the opening level of 94.53 points, the highest at 94.69 points and the lowest at 94.42 points.

Index ended yesterday’s trading up 0.65%, recovering from a two-week low of 93.85 points, supported by the accelerated sell-off of EUR / USD following comments by ECB President Mario Draghi.

Ten-year bond yields in the US rose to a six-week high of 2.988% as the Federal Reserve accelerated monetary policy tightening and raised interest rates two more times this year.

In order to reassess these possibilities, investors are expected later in the day to release important data from the United States on the growth of the world’s largest economy in the second quarter, and according to expectations will strengthen the data from the possibility of accelerating the pace of tightening US monetary policy.

The preliminary GDP reading for the second quarter of 2018 is expected to grow by 4.2% from 2.0% growth in the first quarter.

Other data on consumer confidence, with the final reading of the University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index, released in July, is expected to be 97.1, and the index was 98.2 points in June.
