Euro is falling to a one-week low after US interest rate hike

Euro fell on the European market on Thursday against a basket of global currencies, continuing losses for the second day in a row against USD, hitting a one-week low as USD purchases continued after the Federal Reserve’s decision to raise interest rates for the third time this year. Which has renewed concerns about deepening the divergence of monetary policy between Europe and the United States.

EURUSD fell 0.35% as of 07:25 GMT, trading at $ 1.1695, the opening price of $ 1.1736, the highest at $ 1.1757 and the lowest at $ 1.1685 the lowest in a week.

Euro ended Wednesday’s trading down 0.25% against the dollar, its third loss in four days, after the Federal Reserve’s decisions.

The dollar index rose more than 0.4% on Thursday, extending its gains for the second day in a row, reaching a one-week high of 94.24 points, reflecting continued US currency purchases against a basket of major and minor currencies.

As expected, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 2.25 percent, the third increase in US interest rates this year, a fourth increase in December, three increases in 2019 and one increase in 2020.

The Federal Reserve also dropped the monetary policy statement, although Jerome Powell, chairman of the Reserve Bank of the Federal Reserve, assured the press conference that the policy was still accommodative. The US central bank had gradually raised interest rates since late 2015 from near zero.

Euro continues to fall for the second day against the dollar, especially as renewed concerns over deepening monetary policy divergence between Europe and the United States have intensified after Mario Draghi indicated this week that European interest rates will remain steady at record lows until the summer of 2019.
