Aflac Inc (NYSE:AFL) Tops Estimates

Aflac Inc (NYSE:AFL) stock rose 3.41% (As on November 5, 11:19:27 AM UTC-4, Source: Google Finance) after the company topped Wall Street estimates for third-quarter profit and revenue, driven by investment gains and higher premium growth in its United States division. The company’s U.S. unit earned net premiums of $1.5 billion in the third quarter, up 2.5% from a year earlier. Sales in the U.S. increased 2.8% during the quarter, driven by strong demand for group life and disability products. The company said it benefited from net investment gains of $275 million during the quarter, a sharp turnaround from losses of $1.4 billion in the same period last year. Net earnings were $1.6 billion, or $3.08 per diluted share, compared with net losses of $93 million, or losses of $0.17 per diluted share a year ago. Shareholders’ equity was $28.7 billion, or $54.57 per share, at September 30, 2025, compared with $24.8 billion, or $44.60 per share, at September 30, 2024.

Moreover, in yen terms, Aflac Japan’s net earned premiums were ¥245.2 billion for the quarter, or 4.0% lower than a year ago, mainly due to internal cancer reinsurance transactions. Adjusted net investment income was relatively flat at ¥98.0 billion, decreasing 0.9%. Total adjusted revenues in yen declined 3.1% to ¥344.2 billion. Aflac Japan had 11.8% year-over-year sales increase in the quarter due to ongoing strong premium persistency. The strong sales were driven largely by continued sales of the cancer insurance product Miraito, which was launched in March.

AFL in the third quarter of FY25 has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $2.49, beating the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $1.77. The company had reported the adjusted revenue of $4.74 billion in the third quarter of FY25, beating the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $4.38 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. This is primarily due to net investment gains of $275 million this quarter compared to net investment losses of $1.4 billion in the third quarter of 2024.

Additionally, the company has declared the fourth quarter dividend of $0.58 per share, payable on December 1, 2025 to shareholders of record at the close of business on November 19, 2025. In the third quarter, Aflac Incorporated deployed $1.0 billion in capital to repurchase 9.3 million of its common shares. At the end of September 2025, the company had 121.6 million remaining shares authorized for repurchase.
