BBVA Is Creating A Training Program To Educate Its Top Executives In The Use of GenAI

BBVA recently announced that it is working on a new training program that would teach its top executives how to use GenAI to improve productivity.

A New Program For Executives

The new program was launched by the Spanish bank in collaboration with the University of Navarra, and its goal is to educate the bank’s 150 top managers, teaching them how to use modern technology to their advantage.

More specifically, the course was developed by the University’s Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Institute (DATAI), which collaborated with BBVA’s own teams. It will focus primarily on using GenAI to boost the productivity of the bank’s executives by optimizing their strategic decision-making, but also various day-to-day operations.

DATAI’s head of innovation, Ivan Cordon, commented on the move, stating that the course caters to the emerging needs of financial institutions. He also explained that it was created after the recent integration of artificial intelligence within enterprises.

Cordon added that the course will be a complete and thorough introduction to GenAI, and it will allow the participants to explore how this technology can impact business management. “With the case studies we look at, learners get to see how to apply this technology, from automating routine tasks to optimizing complex processes.”

Why Is BBVA Seeking To Teach Executives About GenAI?

The University of Navarra’s GenAI program has already proven to be quite successful. Back in April of this year, around 300 employees have graduated from the course.

This path of learning is a part of the partnership agreement that both institutions signed in 2020. The deal was to train their employees and foster research in data science using various initiatives, such as an official Master’s Degree in Big Data Science, and a course in Big Data.

BBVA’s head of GenAI adoption, Elena Alfaro, stated that the new training program’s role is not only to make the executives more creative and productive, but also to make them more adept at embracing emerging technologies. At the same time, they would be encouraged to lead change among their respective teams.

However, for any of that to happen, they must first understand GenAI and its uses, which will eventually allow the company to get the most out of this technology, not only now, but in the future, as well.

The firm is doubling down on AI technology, having recently doubled the number of staff working on it to number over 400 individuals. Not only that, but it opened new ‘AI Factories’ in Turkey and Mexico.

Not to mention that BBVE became the first European bank to forge alliance with OpenAI back in May of this year, deploying as many as 3,000 ChatGPT Enterprise licenses among staffers.
