BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK)results disappoint, stock falls

BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) in the second quarter of FY 17 ended June 30 has missed the analysts’ expectations although the inflows for the world’s largest investment manager continued to encourage. The stock lost over 0.8% in the pre market session on July 17th, 2017. BlackRock stock has risen 22.84% in the last one year (source: Google Finance).

BlackRock, has reported an 8.6 percent rise in quarterly profit, due to the higher fees. The net income attributable to the company grew to $857 million in the second quarter from $789 million a year earlier.

In the second quarter, BlackRock, has experienced $104 billion of total net inflows due to the by breadth of the diversified business model and investments the company has done. BLK’s platform has generated $94 billion of long-term net inflows in the second quarter, which was positive across all client and product types, and investment styles. iShares assets under management has crossed $1.5 trillion due to the continued momentum in the second quarter,  and had a $74 billion of net inflows. Further, BLK’s active strategies have generated $8 billion of net inflows, due to the multi-asset, fixed income and alternative offerings, that has contributed to the strong organic base fee growth in the second quarter. There is strong fundraising momentum in illiquid alternatives and $9 billion in flows and commitments year-to-date.

BLK in the second quarter of FY 17 has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $5.24, missing the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $5.39. The company had reported the adjusted revenue growth of 5.7 percent to $2.96 billion in the second quarter of FY 17, missing the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $3.01 billion.

Moreover, BlackRock has posted 12% growth in the technology and risk management revenue year-over-year, due to Aladdin. BLK’s first three Aladdin Risk for Wealth Management clients are now live on the platform, due to the greater risk transparency and portfolio construction capabilities. The company has continued to expand the digital distribution offerings in the second quarter with the announced acquisition of Cachematrix and a minority investment in Scalable Capital.

In the second quarter, BlackRock had $275 million of quarterly share repurchases. Meanwhile, BLK is preparing to start a private fund in China after the country has opened the market wider to global players. BLK has planned to set up a wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE) first for its private fund business in the nation. Fidelity International is expected to start a private fund in Shanghai and has planned to launch its second onshore private fund by the end of this year. UBS Asset Management also got a license to offer such funds for onshore stock, bond and multi-asset investment.
