Circle Considers 2024 IPO for USDC Stablecoin

According to reports, Circle Internet Financial Ltd., which issues the USDC stablecoin, is considering an IPO in 2024. Consultants have advised the company on its potential initial public offering (IPO), but the evaluation and timeframe have not been disclosed. Circle had attempted a blank-check IPO in 2022, valuing it at $9 billion but later on dropped the plan.

Circle planned to go public in 2021 by merging with Concord Acquisition Corp., a SPAC. The deal failed; therefore, Circle’s strategic goal of becoming a publicly traded company in the US was not achieved. Circle’s investors include Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, and BlackRock, demonstrating its importance in the cryptocurrency and blockchain business.

Circle’s USDC stablecoin, one of the largest in the world, has changed the cryptocurrency market. Stablecoins are digital currencies tethered to real-world assets, usually the U.S. dollar. A variety of cryptocurrency ecosystem applications benefit from their stable value.

Circle had a dilemma last year when it disclosed its $3.3 billion exposure to Silicon Valley Bank, which has financial problems. A popular stablecoin, Tether (USDT), has a market valuation of $86 billion. USDT dominated the stablecoin market, which grew 21% in market capitalization last year.

While these improvements continue, the cryptocurrency sector, including Bitcoin, is undergoing dynamic changes and attracting investors. Therefore, this sector is challenging and engaging for businesses and individuals.
