Circle, a prominent stablecoin issuer behind $USDC, has announced an exclusive development. As per Circle, it is launching the $USDC, with the earliest bridged-to-native upgrade, on Linea, a prominent zkEVM L2 blockchain built by Consensys. The platform announced this groundbreaking transition on its official social media account.

Circle Announces Bridged-to-Native $USDC Upgrade on Linea
The launch of native $USDC will preplace the bridged $USDC standard of Linea. This will transition bridged $USDC to natively release $USDC on Linea. The respective transition focuses on improving efficiency, liquidity, and the overall consumer experience across the ecosystem. A bridged $USDC is not released by Circle. Rather, it is moved through a procedure called “bridging.” A blockchain uses bridging when it has incompatibility with the other blockchain that natively issues an asset.
The transition from bridged to native $USDC will reporedly further fortify Linea’s position as a prominent blockchain. The upgrade will permit users and developers to experience an unparalleled transition. As a result of this, they will not require any manual intervention. Hence, the present bridged $USDC ($USD.e) will automatically be converted to Circle’s natively released $USDC.
Integrating Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 to Link to Top Blockchains
Amid this $USDC transition, the automatic conversion will guarantee a seamless procedure without any asset swaps or code changes. The respective upgrade discards liquidity fragmentation and permits apps to keep functioning without any disruptions. After the approaching mainnet launch of Linea, Circle also plans to incorporate the Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2. Linea will leverage this upgrade to connect to well-known blockchains such as Ethereum, Base, and Avalanche. This will pave the way for faster-than-finality $USDC transactions.

According to Circle, the CCTP V2 upgrade uses burn-and-mint transactions dissimilar to conventional bridging mechanisms. Subsequently, it will improve security and capital efficiency while requiring no liquidity lockups. A key feature of the transition from bridged to native $USDC is the automatic $USDC upgrade.
Other benefits include institutional on and off-ramps, improved cross-chain experience, and no liquidity fragmentation. The upgrade procedure is anticipated to take one to two weeks and will ultimately deliver a seamless user experience.
