Ethena Completes Extended Security Assessment
Earlier, Ethena was only Soc 2 Type I classified. Now, the SOC 2 Type II audit evaluated Ethena’s operational controls. Unlike a Type I assessment, which examines whether controls are properly designed, a Type II audit evaluates whether those controls operate effectively over an extended period.
The assessment covered areas including access controls, change management, and incident response. In its, official announcement on X, Ethena said the audit applies to the infrastructure and operational processes supporting its products.
SOC 2 Complements Ethena Smart Contract Audits
Ethena noted that the SOC 2 assessment is separate from the smart contract audits and other security reviews. While smart contract audits focus primarily on code and protocol-level risks, SOC 2 evaluates organizational and operational controls. With this achievement, Ethena has joined the limited group of blockchain companies that have achieved SOC 2 Type II status. These firms include Circle, Chainlink, and Aave.
USDe is a crypto-native synthetic dollar designed to maintain its value through a delta-neutral strategy. Ethena uses crypto assets such as staked $ETH and $BTC as collateral. Users can stake $USDe to receive $sUSDe, which generates yield primarily through funding rates and staking rewards.
For traditional financial institutions and enterprise partners, operational controls are of the utmost importance. Ethena’s SOC 2 Type II certification therefore highlights the growing focus on security practices.
