Sadly, over 5,000 people have lost their lives as a result of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and other countries in the region, including Lebanon, Iraq,  Cyprus, Jordan, Georgia, Syria, and Armenia. Following Monday’s devastating earthquakes in Turkey and their numerous aftershocks, cryptocurrency trading platforms on both sides of the Atlantic have given help to the country.

At least 2,100 people have died as a result of the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey. The rescue operations are continuing with the help of organizations and governments throughout the world. Several different platforms have shown their willingness to facilitate cryptocurrency donations from the global cryptocurrency community.

Crypto Exchanges Offer Aid for Turkey Earthquake Relief Efforts

Gate.io, Bitfinex, and Binance are some of the cryptocurrency platforms that have expressed interest in or begun preparing help packages. Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange in Turkey, has contributed 1 m lira. Huobi has also offered 2 million lira. Contributions of thousands of dollars poured into Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s incursion the year before, and in 2021, when India was battling a fatal epidemic of Corona Virus, the cryptocurrency there was quick to provide aid.

However, when local councils are less accommodating of digital products, which are in a legislative grey area in places throughout the world, accepting cryptocurrency contributions can be riskier than regular payments and bank transfers. Groups in Turkey’s blockchain sector and academia have drafted a petition requesting legal support for accepting cryptocurrency donations.

As a gesture of sympathy for those impacted by the massive earthquake in Turkish State, Binance will distribute BNB tokens worth 100 USD to all customers located in the regions hit worst by the disaster. Furthermore, there will be a total of about $5 million in gifts.
