Wall Street Pauses Amid Geopolitical Wait

Wall Street benchmarks are trading in a tight, cautious range on Monday afternoon as geopolitical developments and corporate stock moves weigh on sentiment. The S&P 500 is little changed, shedding just 3.10 points (-0.04%) to sit at 7,754.54. Markets are closely monitoring the Middle East as traders await a potential deal regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which continues to keep oil prices highly sensitive. Meanwhile, the technology sector is facing headwinds, notably with Intel shares falling following news of a $15 billion stock offering.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is leading the slight broader market pullback, dropping 140.34 points (-0.26%) to trade at 53,896.59, while the tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite is slipping 62.55 points (-0.23%) to hover at 26,628.07.

Dow Jones Industrial Average

The Dow Jones Industrial Average remains under slight bearish pressure, forming an inside bar that is keeping Monday’s price action entirely within Friday’s range. The index currently sits at 53,893.09, reflecting a modest intraday pause following recent volatility.

If the current bearish pressure forces the index lower before the close, immediate focus shifts to the previously broken swing high resistance-turned-support around the 53,289 level, which closely aligns with the -0.272 Fibonacci retracement at 53,454.80. A deeper pullback from there could extend toward the primary ascending trend line that has supported the macro uptrend. Conversely, if buyers regain control and push higher, the psychological 55,000 level stands as the primary target, followed by the 161.8% Fibonacci extension zone near 55,737.39.

Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD)

Shares of Gilead Sciences are currently trading at $132.56, continuing a period of extended consolidation. Price action is actively compressing near two critical dynamic support levels: the 100-day EMA at $131.77 and the 200-day EMA at $129.21.

The stock has established a clear range top in the $137.00 to $140.00 area, clustering near the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement ($137.08). For traders, this current compression around the major moving averages presents a compelling opportunity to accumulate long positions while the market is open. A breakout above the consolidation phase could quickly target the upper bounds of that $137–$140 range. To manage downside risk, a protective stop-loss can be placed below the latest major swing low of $121.39 to guard against a breakdown of the longer-term bullish structure.
