Bitcoin Short-Term SOPR Signals Overheating, Correction Likely

The 7-day moving average of Bitcoin Short-Term Holder Spent Output Profit Ratio (STH SOPR) has climbed to around 1.03. This is a significant level as it has historically coincided with short-term corrections during bullish market phases. So, it is likely that Bitcoin ($BTC) may face a short-term pullback. Moreover, on-chain indicators point to increasing profit-taking among recent buyers.

STH SOPR measures the realized profit or loss of $BTC moved by short-term holders. Short-term refers to investors holding coins for less than 155 days. A reading above 1 indicates that these holders are, on average, selling or transferring Bitcoin at a profit. Meanwhile, a reading below 1 suggests realized losses.

Bitcoin STH SOPR Approaches Historical Overheating Zone

CryptoQuant analysis shared through its Japan account noted that Bitcoin has previously experienced short-term pullbacks when the 7-day STH SOPR average approached the 1.03 level. The indicator has once again reached this zone as Bitcoin consolidates after recently climbing toward the $81,000 area. BTC is currently trading around $77,600–$77,800, leaving the cryptocurrency roughly 4% below its recent high.

The latest reading does not necessarily confirm an immediate correction. However, it suggests that short-term holders are realizing increasing profits. This could create additional selling pressure if the indicator remains elevated.

$71,000 Level Remains Important for $BTC

From a technical perspective, Bitcoin traders are monitoring the $71,000 area, which previously acted as a resistance zone. After being reclaimed, the level has turned into an important support area. A long as BTC holds above $71,000, the broader bullish structure remains intact. Conversely, a decisive move below this level on weekly chart could increase downside pressure.

Bitcoin would first need to regain the $80,000 psychological level and eventually retest the recent $81,000 high to restore stronger short-term bullish momentum.

For now, the elevated STH SOPR reading suggests that traders may need to exercise caution rather than aggressively chase $BTC. Market participants will be watching whether the indicator continues rising or begins to reset lower.
