MetaMask Separates From Consensys Protocol Business
MetaMask announced the change today via its official X announcement. MetaMask said that the restructuring is intended to give both businesses greater focus as users and institutional adoption of blockchain technology and crypto.
Under the new structure, Consensys founder and CEO Joseph Lubin will lead MetaMask as Chairman and CEO. On the other side, he will also be serving as Executive Chairman of the newly formed Consensys company simultaneously.
The new Consensys entity will continue developing Ethereum technology through business-to-business and business-to-business-to-consumer model. Its operations will include protocols and institutional infrastructure, with Linea remaining part of the business.
MetaMask Users Will See No Immediate Changes
In its official blog, MetaMask emphasized that the restructuring will not require any action from existing users. The crypto wallet application, user digital assets, private keys, and access will remain unchanged. This is a sigh of relief for MetaMask users. The wallet will continue connecting users to crypto tokens, DeFi protocols, and blockchain networks.
MetaMask said its vision is centered on “Open Money.” Open Money refers to internet-native money that is open, portable, and controlled directly by users. MetaMask aims to provide a platform where users can hold, spend, trade, and grow their digital assets while maintaining self-custody.
MetaMask has recorded more than 100 million downloads across approximately 190 countries. It has processed trillions of dollars in cumulative transaction volume since its launch. Both the companies are now expected to maintain a business relationship.
