Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday made a visionary statement at the annual gala developer conference in San Francisco. He stated that, the future of computing would be voice-based and Microsoft would lead this revolution.
In a eye-opening technology revelation, the top executive cited various examples of human and computer interaction would be voice-based.
Speaking at the Conference, Nadella referred to the “power of human language” to engage machines and humans for internet development. Touch screens would be minor enablers of this evolution, he was quoted as saying.
MSFT World Revolves around Cortana
It appears that many of Nadella’s futuristic human-machine interaction will rely significantly on its virtual voice-assistant, Cortana.
Nadella has also indicated that apart from Cortana, other chat bots would drive the new guidelines of interaction between computers and humans. In its latest moves, the company has been positioning Cortana as a personal software assistant providing directions to the theatre, sending mails or reminding people about their tasks.
Chatbots?
These are the latest bots which are programmed to learn the human language by constantly interacting with the human language using Machine-learning capabilities, artificial intelligence as well as natural language processing.
Chatbots are already in use in messaging services such as Slack. The Bots are ordering Uber rides using Slack’s tool.
Besides, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) also provided live examples of how software can handle ‘ordering of desserts’ independently at the event. Another example was of Cortana connecting with a hotel chat bot to organize for accommodation for an out-of-town conference!
Just last week, one of its chat bot’s – Tay for Twitter platform – was at the receiving end as pranksters quickly exploited the ability of the bot to learn human language. Tay was found raising political issues and making negative statements after sessions of chat with prankster twitter user group. Tay was grounded by the company for major fixes and will re-debut only after it is ready to handle such pranks.
However, all of the demonstrations at the event, showcased Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) intent to enter the new technology generation with voice-based, chat bots and more is evident, even without Nadella’s reiteration that today’s MSFT is open to work with developers of every genre to build world class, useful products!
