Standard Chartered Launches Institutional $BTC, $ETH Trading in UAE

Standard Chartered bank has launched institutional spot trading for Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ether ($ETH) in the United Arab Emirates. With this step, Standard Chartered is becoming the first global systemically important bank (G-SIB) to offer such services in the Middle East. Eligible institutional clients can execute deliverable spot trades through the bank’s existing electronic trading channels.

Standard Chartered Integrates Crypto Trading with Existing Infrastructure

FBS The Best Forex Broker

The bank’s new crypto trading service is integrated with its established foreign exchange trading platform. The advanced platform will allow eligible institutional clients to access Bitcoin and Ether through familiar trading infrastructure. Clients can also settle their cryptocurrency transactions with a custodian of their choice. Standard Chartered itself is among the available custody options, building on its existing digital asset custody operations.

The launch provides institutional investors with a regulated banking channel for gaining exposure to the two largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. It will also help institutions streamline trading and settlement processes.

UAE Crypto Trading Expansion Follows UK Launch

Standard Chartered’s latest move builds on its broader expansion into digital assets. The bank launched institutional spot cryptocurrency trading in the United Kingdom in July 2025. In the UAE, Standard Chartered began offering digital asset custody services in September 2024. The latest development therefore expands the bank’s existing presence in the country.

Standard Chartered has also recently made changes to its digital asset business structure. The bank consolidated full ownership of its Zodia Custody subsidiary. It is separating Zodia Solutions into an independent technology provider.

The restructuring is intended to streamline the bank’s digital asset operations as it continues expanding its institutional cryptocurrency services. The launch of spot Bitcoin and Ether trading in the UAE further demonstrates the growing involvement of major global banks in the digital asset market. Standard Chartered is making it easier for institutional investors in the region to access cryptocurrency markets through established banking channels.
