The decentralized finance (DeFi) community has recently witnessed another notable development amid the ongoing spree of exploits. UXLINK, a Web3 infrastructure platform, has been attacked. The address linked to the exploiter of UXLINK has reportedly executed a huge swap, converting millions. As per the data from PeckShieldAlert, the exploiter-linked address converted a total of 14.6M $DAI tokens into 8,298.6 $ETH. After that, the attacker deposited 8,340 $ETH into Tornado Cash, a renowned privacy-focused crypto mixer, to launder them.

UXLINK Exploiter Uses Tornado Cash to Launder 8,340 $ETH
In line with the market data, the address associated with the UXLINK exploiter has laundered 8,340 $ETH via Tornado Cash after the conversion of 14.6M $DAI into 8,298.6 $ETH. Additionally, other than the use of Tornado Cash, the attacker attempted to further obscure the capital trails with bridging. In this respect, the exploiter bridged nearly 2.64 $ETH ($4.63K) to “bc1pv…7c5q,” which is a Bitcoin address. Nonetheless, irrespective of these movements, the wallet even now holds a substantial 10.54M $DAI, signifying the massive scale of capital that is under the control of the attacker.
Particularly, the use of Tornado Cash by the exploiter has raised concerns as the project has long been linked to crypto laundering. As a part of this development, the attacker made many deposits into Tornado Cash routers, taking into account 2.6458848 $ETH, 100 $ETH, and 10 $ETH, suggesting a deliberate effort to conceal funds by fragmenting. The move also reflects the tactics in previous such exploits where exploiters utilized mixers in order to avoid detection by complicating recovery endeavors.
$ETH-to-$BTC Swap Further Complicates Funds Trailing
According to PeckShieldAlert, adding to the complexity of the laundering trail, the UXLINK attacker started a swap from Ethereum to Bitcoin. For this purpose, the exploiter sent 0.07103205 $BTC, accounting for $4,616.78. The respective swap took 2 minutes and thirty-nine seconds to accomplish, incurring $7.24 in cumulative fees. Overall, this laundering activity raises questions concerning the ongoing monitoring mechanisms and the capabilities of regulators and exchanges to confiscate illegal flows.
