GBP/AUD Long-Term Reversal Pattern Forming

GBPAUD appears to be testing a key resistance level around 2.0800, having recently pulled back after attempting to break above this significant barrier.

The pair is currently trading at 2.07208, showing signs of hesitation as it approaches this critical zone, which is the neckline of a potential double bottom pattern. The horizontal resistance at 2.0800 coincides with previous price reactions, making it a significant technical level to watch.

The currency pair has been forming higher lows since early May, indicating a potential shift in momentum after the decline that began in late April. This recent price action suggests that buyers are gradually regaining control, though the overhead resistance around 2.0800 remains a formidable obstacle.

Looking at the moving averages, the 100 SMA (blue line) has recently crossed below the 200 SMA (red line), typically indicating that the path of least resistance is to the downside.

However, price is now testing both moving averages from below, which could serve as dynamic resistance levels. A clear break above both SMAs would strengthen the bullish case and potentially signal a trend reversal.

Stochastic is currently hovering near the overbought zone, suggesting that buying momentum may be approaching exhaustion. If the oscillator turns lower from here, it could indicate a return in selling pressure that might push GBPAUD back toward support around 2.0650 or even lower to test the recent lows near 2.0550.

RSI is also showing elevated readings, reinforcing the possibility of a pullback before any sustained move higher. The oscillator still has some room to climb before reaching extreme overbought levels, but its current position suggests caution for bulls.

GBPAUD could take cues from upcoming economic data from both the UK and Australia, particularly any signals regarding monetary policy direction from the Bank of England and Reserve Bank of Australia. Trade developments could also drive the Aussie around, with the British pound already drawing strong support from the UK-US trade deal.
