Wall Street Pulls Back as Geopolitical Tensions and Yield Surge Rattle Markets
U.S. equities faced broad selling pressure on Friday, as the previous optimism that drove the Dow to historic highs gave way to caution. A combination of rising geopolitical tensions and a spike in Treasury yields dampened risk appetite across the board. Sentiment shifted following reports of stalled U.S.-Iran negotiations, while Treasury yields climbed to nearly one-year highs, fueling fears that “sticky” inflation may lead to a more hawkish Federal Reserve under incoming leadership.
By early afternoon, the market snapshot reflected a sea of red: the S&P 500 dropped 65.72 points (0.88%) to 7,435.27, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 337.33 points (1.27%) to 26,297.89.
Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU)
The DJIA index opened lower today and has continued to move downward with strong momentum. Following its recent rally above the 50,000 mark, the index is experiencing a technical retracement, looking likely to end the week near its opening level. However, as the trading hours have just started, anything could happen until the close. As of the midday update, the index was trading at 49,681.35, down 380.11 points or 0.76%.
Crocs, Inc. (CROX)
The share price is soon expected to test the 50% Fibonacci Retracement level, with the EMA 100 and EMA 200 positioned just below. While there is a chance for a long position near these averages, the current strong bearish momentum suggests it is better to wait and see for a bullish reaction before entering.
