A new update to Litecoin (LTC) and the MimbleWimble Extension Block (MWEB) are propelling advancements in cryptocurrencies. It promises heightened functionality and accessibility for users globally.
Litewallet Mobile Wallet Adapts to Support MWEB Transactions
Current work on Litecoin Core v0.21.3 aims to add MWEB support to light clients. This required updating Litecoin Core to add peer-to-peer messages that light clients can check from full nodes. LIP006’s implementation has been added to Litecoin Core, allowing it to do more. Litecoin Core v0.21.3 will soon receive a minor build with these changes, default BIP157/BIP158 filter serving and bug fixes. Full node operators should upgrade immediately to support MWEB light clients.

To help clients get and verify MWEB data from peers, LTCSuite libraries have been developed. This process involves getting MWEBUTXOs, HogExAndMWEBHeaders, and MWEBLeafset from peers running v0.21.3, verifying the data, determining wallet outputs, and creating transactions to spend money, such as pegins, pegouts, and mweb transactions. Adding MWEB support is being tested and code reviewed to ensure success.
During development, ltcsuite libraries were updated to match upstream btcsuite. This has enabled taproot support and CPU speedups. The Litewallet mobile wallet no longer uses the old Litecoin backend. Litewallet now supports MWEB transactions with ltcsuite.
Trending Now: Record Bitcoin Accumulation Addresses Signal Strong Demand
Partially Signed Bitcoin Transactions (PSBTs) now include MWEB transaction components, making transaction building easier and hardware wallet compatibility.
Litecoin and MWEB Innovate to Meet Growing Demand in Cryptocurrency Market
Litecoin Core v24 will fully support descriptor wallets, which previously required major changes to how the wallet handled keys and other tasks. Descriptor wallets make it easy to track wallet addresses and keys. RPC APIs and a separate database enable this. The careful design ensures that everything works well and users get the most out of it.
These changes are crucial for the cryptocurrency market as big investors and regular traders increase demand. MWEB support and other improvements make Litecoin more valuable and improve security and privacy.
Litecoin and MWEB are always innovating, even though cryptocurrencies change. They constantly improve their scalable, private, and user-friendly systems. These changes demonstrate the LTC community’s commitment to safe and reliable digital asset trading.
