CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME) stock rose 0.67% (As on October 23, 11:37:25 AM UTC-4, Source: Google Finance) after the company posted mixed results for the third quarter of FY25. Clearing and transaction fees revenue for third-quarter 2025 totaled $1.2 billion. The total average rate per contract was $0.702. Market data revenue totaled a record $203 million for third-quarter 2025. The third quarter average daily volume of 25.3 million contracts represented the second highest third quarter average daily volume in the history. The quarter-end open interest was of 126 million contracts, the highest open interest at the end of September in the last five years, and continuing to grow in October.
Moreover, the crypto complex traded a record 340,000 contracts per day in the third quarter and was up over 225% relative to a year ago. This growth was aided by the early success of Solana futures and XRP futures, which were launched earlier this year. Other new products with record volume in the third quarter include credit futures, one-ounce gold futures, and agricultural weekly options. BrokerTec Chicago, launched just two weeks ago, is also off to a strong start and enables participants to trade futures and cash products side by side at the facility here in Chicago.
CME in the third quarter of FY25 has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $2.68, beating the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $2.64. The company had reported the adjusted revenue of $1.5 billion in the third quarter of FY25, missing the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $1.53 billion.
Additionally, as of September 30, 2025 the company had $2.6 billion in cash (including $200 million deposited with Fixed Income Clearing Corporation, which is included in other current assets) and $3.4 billion of debt. The company paid dividends during the first nine months of the year of approximately $3.5 billion. The company has returned over $29.5 billion to shareholders in the form of dividends since the implementation of the variable dividend policy in early 2012.
Looking ahead, the company remain focused on delivering efficiencies, new products and expanded access for market users, including through the new partnership with FanDuel and 24/7 trading in the cryptocurrency futures and options. CME Group expects total adjusted operating expenses for 2025 to be $1.625 billion. The company is preparing for 24/7 cryptocurrency trading in 2026 and exploring tokenization opportunities with Google Cloud. Strategic initiatives also include expanding event-based contracts and focusing on retail strategy and market innovation.
