GBP is retreating from a 3-week high ahead of UK manufacturing data

GBP fell against a basket of currencies on Wednesday, the first four-day losing streak against USD, down from a three-week high as correction and profit taking took place ahead of key UK manufacturing data releases in December.

GBP was down 0.25% at 0834 GMT, trading at $ 1.2705, the opening price at $ 1.2737, the highest at $ 1.2772 and the lowest at $ 1.2696.

GBP ended Monday’s trading up 0.35% against the dollar, its third daily gain in a row, hitting a three-week high of $ 1.2814, as the greenback continued to fall against most major and minor currencies.


Over the course of last December, the British pound lost about 0.1 percent against the US currency, its third monthly loss in a row, on fears of an anarchic secession from Britain.

The pound lost 2.25% in the fourth quarter of 2018 against the US dollar, its third quarterly loss in a row, the loss of political tensions within the UK, the difficulty of achieving a final separation agreement from the EU, The chaotic separation from the European Union.

Later in the day, investors are looking for data on the UK manufacturing sector in December, providing strong evidence of the pace of recovery of the royal economy during the fourth quarter of 2018.

By 09:30 GMT, the Industrial PMI is expected to reach 52.5 in December and the index hit 53.1 in November.
