The initiative comes at a time when financial service providers are increasingly recognizing the potential of blockchain, smart contracts, and tokenization. According to a recent report by SWIFT, 97% of institutional investors believe that tokenization has the capacity to revolutionize the asset management industry.

ANZ, a prominent banking institution serving millions of customers, collaborated with Chainlink Labs to demonstrate how clients could access, trade, and settle tokenized assets across different networks. The collaboration utilized Chainlink’s blockchain interoperability solution, the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), to enable a process known as Delivery vs. Payment (DvP).

Delivery vs. Payment (DvP) is a widely recognized settlement standard for securities, requiring payment to be made before or simultaneously with the delivery of assets. By leveraging blockchain technology and smart contracts, ANZ aimed to modernize legacy DvP processes, enabling atomic, non-intermediated settlement of tokenized assets.

ANZ’s Successful Test Transaction on Avalanche Blockchain

The project involved a simulated transaction wherein an ANZ customer purchased tokenized assets on Ethereum using stablecoins, with settlement occurring on Avalanche in another stablecoin. This process demonstrated the seamless movement and settlement of tokenized assets across different blockchain networks.

ANZ utilized its own Avalanche Evergreen Subnet, leveraging its compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and customized features such as gas tokens. This allowed ANZ to explore new use cases and business models while benefiting from Avalanche’s customizable network infrastructure.

John Wu, President of Ava Labs, the team behind Avalanche, expressed excitement about the project’s potential to drive forward an exciting future of finance. The collaboration highlights the innovative efforts of traditional financial service providers in embracing blockchain technology to enhance capital markets.

Early results from the test transactions have shown promise, indicating a significant shift in how tokenized assets are settled within the financial services industry. Moving forward, the plan is to deploy the solution on blockchain mainnets and expand workflows to include communication between different blockchain networks for various use cases.
