Barclays, one of the leading banking institutions globally, has announced that it will be working with HPE GreenLake from Hewlett Packard Enterprise to build a global private cloud platform.
The two institutions have unveiled this initiative by signing a “strategic cloud partnership” to see Barclays move a step further towards digitization.
Barclays signs strategic cloud partnership
According to the vendor, the partnership will ensure that Barclays achieves a hybrid solution used in its global operations.
“The bank has signed a strategic cloud partnership, in which the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform will be integral to Barclays’ hybrid multi-cloud strategy and digital transformation across Barclays’ global businesses.”
The announcement also highlights the cloud platform’s capabilities, stating that it will host thousands of applications and more than 100,000 workloads. Moreover, it will be integrated into various databases, including Linux, SQL databases, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and Windows servers.
As aforementioned, the cloud solution will be used in Barclays’ global operations, and as such, it will be used in each of the bank’s major hubs in Asia, the UK and the US.
Cloud solution dependent on HPE’s infrastructure
The two institutions also note that the migration of the firm’s services from the legacy infrastructure has been enabled by HPE Pointnext Services in collaboration with the Barclays team.
The solution is cost-effective for the bank, given that HPE has determined that payments will be made depending on the resources consumed. The bank will also have an option to reserve the workloads and run them later, depending on the demand.
The infrastructure for the entire cloud solution will be managed by HPE. The vendor further adds that “Barclays is using HPE GreenLake Central to manage costs, utilization, compliance and security across the entire private cloud estate – through a unified global dashboard.”
The group chief information officer at Barclays, Craig Bright, notes that this initiative will aid the institution in meeting the changing customer demands. He notes that the modern-day customer is looking for “an intelligent, contextual and personalized digital experience with seamless performance.” As such, the cloud solution will help the bank attract and retain digital-savvy clients.
Craig also notes that this initiative aligns with the bank’s vision. “With HPE GreenLake, we’re building a cloud platform that will enable the agility and operational performance needed to achieve this ambition while providing a modern economic model for private cloud,” he added.
