Amid the growing market uncertainty, Bitcoin’s ($BTC) mining difficulty is significantly dropping. Particularly, the mining difficulty of Bitcoin ($BTC) has reportedly plunged by a severe 11.6%, hitting 125.86T with block height standing at 935,424. As per the data from The Block, this denotes the largest dip since China’s crypto ban of 2021. Overall, it underscores the 10th biggest difficulty slump in the history of Bitcoin ($BTC).

BTC Mining Difficulty Crashes 11.6% at 125.86T Amid Drop in Computing Power
The steep 11.6% decrease in Bitcoin’s mining difficulty at 125.86T raises significant concerns. Specifically, this decline signifies the biggest instance since China imposed a ban back in 2021. Additionally, the adjustment occurs after the average block times have shifted to nearly 11.4 minutes, significantly above the 10-minute target. A key factor is the massive drop in computing power within the Bitcoin network. However, the dip provides a short-term relief to $BTC miners while the wider profitability outlook still shows a grim picture.
Apart from that, the hashrate of the Bitcoin network has decreased by almost 20% during the past month. In this respect, the Hashrate Index of Luxor shows a 11% dip during the recent week to nearly 863 EH/s. So, this underscores a sheer reversal from the noteworthy highs of over 1.1ZH/s. The Winter Storm Fern and the price crash of $BTC emerged as the top contributors to this decline. Therefore, since the peak of $126,000, which occurred briefly in October last year, the flagship cryptocurrency has dropped over 45%, hitting $60K on February 5.
Difficulty Slump Triggers Debate on Price Trajectory of Bitcoin
According to The Block, the average charges for $BTC mining account for $87,000 alongside the 20% decrease in spot prices as compared with that level, at the same time, the transfer charges, which once had a comprehensive miner revenue share, have shrunk to only 1% from the previous 7% following the decline of the on-chain activity boom of 2024. At the moment, the market onlookers are keenly watching whether this difficulty drop leads to a positive price trajectory shift or the opposite.
