BlackRock, Inc.(NYSE: BLK) trades weak on mixed results

BlackRock, Inc.(NYSE: BLK) has reported a 31 percent rise in the first quarter of FY 17  due to the higher investment advisory fees and securities lending revenue. The company has ended the first quarter with US$5.4 trillion in assets under management, up from the preceding quarter, when managed assets totaled US$5.1 trillion.

BlackRock has posted the long-term net inflows of $80 billion in the first quarter, representing the annualized organic asset growth of 7%, were positive across product type, client type, and region. BlackRock has witnessed positive long-term net inflows across all major regions, with net inflows of $55.8 billion, $18.1 billion and $6.4 billion from clients in the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, respectively. At March 31st, 2017, BlackRock has managed 63% of its long-term AUM for investors in the Americas and 37% for clients in EMEA and Asia-Pacific. The Cash management AUM has decreased 4% to $388.9 billion in the first quarter.

Further, both retail and institutional investors have continued to utilize BlackRock’s iShares ETFs as the building blocks for their portfolios and in combinations to drive active returns. iShares has shown record quarterly inflows of $64 billion, again capturing the number one share of industry flows globally, in the United States and in Europe, and in equity and fixed income

BlackRock net income grew to US$862 million, in the first quarter, from US$657 million, a year earlier. Moreover, in the first quarter of FY 17 BlackRock has posted 9% increase in quarterly cash dividend to $2.50 per share and $275 million of share repurchases.

During the first quarter of FY 17, BlackRock has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $5.25, beating the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $4.89. The company had reported the adjusted revenue growth of 8 percent to $2.82 billion in the first quarter of FY 17, missing the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $2.87 billion. The revenue grew due to the growth in base fees, performance fees and technology and risk management revenue. In last year’s first quarter, BlackRock had reported adjusted earnings of $4.25 per share and $2.62 billion in revenue.

BlackRock stock has risen 7.23% in the last one year (source: Google Finance) but the stock lost over 0.5% this morning (as of  10:05AM EDT on April 19th, 2017; Source: Google finance). However, based on tipranks.com, 5 analysts has covered the stock while recommending a “Moderate Buy” with an average price target of $442.23, which is a further upside of 15.31%.
