PeckShield Alert, a cybersecurity platform, disclosed that the crypto space witnessed more than ten prominent hacks in August, paving the way for almost $313.86M in losses. The cybersecurity entity disclosed the respective statistics on its official social media account.

The significant extent of the respective incidents reminds the crypto community of the significance of resilient security measures. In addition to this, it also focuses on the requirement for constant vigilance to shield digital assets. Out of the cumulative reported losses, a huge 93.5% emerged from only a couple of phishing attacks.

These phishing events reportedly drained a substantial value of approximately $293.4 million. This made them the biggest and most devastating events that took place in August. Phishing is known as a cyberattack in which the exploiters deceive their victims into giving private information. Sometimes they tempt the targeted individuals to permit fraudulent means.
Crypto Exploits Other Than Phishing Attacks Drain $18.93M in August 2024
In this respect, this is becoming a big threat to the overall crypto realm. Such phishing schemes usually include means to trick consumers into innocently transacting funds to bad actors. This results in massive financial losses in the hands of the victims. The biggest of the above-mentioned phishing attacks aimed at Bitcoin holders, leading to $238M in BTC in terms of losses.
Another phishing attack drained $55.4M in DAI, stressing the vulnerabilities of the stablecoins regarding these fraudulent schemes. The Ronin Network, formerly known for an enormous hack back in 2022, again got hit in August this year. This attack led to a loss of approximately $12M. Apart from that, an unauthorized transaction also occurred, paving the way for a $5.1M loss. Moreover, Nexera Protocol also went through a hack. The exploiter took away $1.83M in that hack.
