Dave & Buster’s Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:PLAY) stock surges 25.68% (As on June 7, 11:06:46 AM UTC-4, Source: Google Finance) after the company reported mixed first-quarter results as earnings topped, but revenue missed Wall Street expectations amid an uptick in margin growth. Comparable store sales including main event branded stores, fell 4.1% compared to the same period in 2022, though increased 10.3% from the same period in 2019. PLAY has generated $92.4 million in operating cash flow during the first quarter, contributing to an ending cash balance of $91.5 million for total liquidity of over $581 million when combined with the $490 million available on the $500 million revolving credit facility, net of outstanding letters of credit. The company has ended the quarter with total leverage ratio of two times.

PLAY in the first quarter of FY 23 has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $1.45, beating the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $1.27. The company had reported  percent fall in the adjusted revenue to $597.3 million in the first quarter of FY 23, missing the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $604.5 million. The company has generated record net income of $70.1 million, and record adjusted EBITDA of $182.1 million in the first quarter. On a pro forma basis, the first-quarter revenue and adjusted EBITDA reflect growth of 3.8% and 4.6% reflective — respectively, relative to the first quarter of fiscal ’22.

Meanwhile, in the quarter, the company has opened one new Dave & Buster’s store in Puerto Rico and three new Main Event stores in Little Rock, Arkansas; Tucson, Arizona; and Lexington, Kentucky. The company has also signed two international franchise agreements for up to 15 stores in India and up to five stores in Australia. The company continues to be extremely excited about the future of this organization. The company also have two industry-leading brands in Dave & Buster’s and Main Event. PLAY invested a total of $50.8 million in capital additions during the quarter, opening one new Dave & Buster’s store in Puerto Rico and three new Main Event stores in Little Rock, Arkansas; Tucson, Arizona; and Lexington, Kentucky.

Additionally, the company had repurchased $200 million of common stock, thus far, in fiscal 2023, reducing the shares outstanding by nearly 12%. PLAY have an additional $100 million remaining on the share repurchase authorization.
