Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, has recently published an article explaining his personal failed experiences to suggest some improvements. In his latest article, he discussed the things related to in-person payment mechanisms, user interface, user experience, and payment delays.

He started by discussing a failed experience that took place back in 2013. He mentioned that, while in a sushi restaurant where Bitcoin was accepted for payments, he attempted to recompense the bill but could not. The place was near the San Francisco-based Internet Archive but, due to the failed attempt, he had to walk nearly 50 meters in the direction of the Internet Archive to access wifi.

This ultimately let the transaction happen, indicating that the internet is not completely reliable. Thus, he suggested that there is a requirement for systems for in-person payments with QR codes or other such functionality. As per him, this would permit the consumers to transact their transfer data straightly to the merchant.

He then described a couple of other incidents related to the user interface. He disclosed that he transacted crypto to the owner of an Argentina-based coffee shop in 2021 but the transfer was not accepted as the deposited amount was under the minimum deposit. Hence, he had to send the 3x overpayment. With this, he mentioned that the user interface should be improved to clear such hindrances in payments.

In addition to this, he mentioned that another time his mobile wallet sent the transaction with just 21000 gas while the receiving wallet required additional gas for the processing of the transaction. The attempts to send the next transaction were unsuccessful due to a UI glitch in his wallet. In this way, he asserted that provision of the robust and simple user interfaces is needed for further betterment.

Buterin moved on to discuss the transaction delays and mentioned that these things happen frequently. As per the Ethereum co-founder, the recently introduced EIP-1559 has made a significant improvement to deal with such situations. Nonetheless, he added, some issues remain when several people simultaneously send transactions, leading to a rise in the base fee. This problem is related to user experience and some improvements are required to be incorporated for this.
