The opening month of 2025 was quite strong for institutional foreign exchange (FX) markets. Trading numbers at main centers went up again across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Although there were some differences, but the overall movement stayed positive.
Click 365, the FX trading service on the Tokyo Financial Exchange (TFX), showed a month-over-month (MoM) rise of 12.5% to 1,722,895 contracts. The average daily volume was 81,923 contracts. Year-over-year (YoY) drops of over 16% were still there compared to January last year.
USD/JPY Remained The Largest Volume Driver With 494,000 Contracts
The USD/JPY currency pair stayed the biggest volume driver with almost 494,000 contracts, going up 15.9% MoM but falling 42% YoY.
Monthly numbers also increased in the U.S on the Cboe spot exchange. January’s total was $1.04 trillion with an ADV of $47.45 billion. Since there were more trading days than in December, the total number went up by more than 21%. Unlike TFX, this also showed an improvement year-over-year, as total trading volume in January 2024 were $959.8 billion.
In Europe, there were more trading activity. 360T, owned by a German stock exchange had higher numbers, going up by almost $100 billion to $760.8 billion for the month. This pushed ADV to $33 billion, hitting a four-month high.
Euronext FX’s Fastmatch saw different results. Total numbers went down slightly from $613 billion in the preceding month to $609.9 billion. This pulled down the ADV, which dropped to $27.7 billion. But compared to the past year, this was still better, as the average daily number then was $25 billion.
KPIT Technologies rose 8.50% to Rs 1,367.85 after the company shared that it has changed its FY25 EBITDA forecast to over 21% from over 20.5% originally planned. The firm kept its constant currency (CC) revenue growth forecast between 18% and 22%.
VT Markets Saw A 150% Year-Over-Year Trading Volume Increase
The company’s total net profit went down 8.23% in the third quarter to Rs 186.97 crore, while earnings from operations rose slightly by 0.44% to Rs 1,477.96 crore compared to the previous quarter.
Compared to the third quarter of FY24, the firm’s revenue and net profit were up by 17.58% and 20.37% respectively.
VT Markets, a multi-asset trading firm shared higher trading numbers and business growth in 2024. The firm reported a year-over-year trading volume jump of 150% while growing its team to about 600 workers across 27 offices. The company said its yearly trading amount grew by 150% while its workforce increased to about 600 workers across 27 offices.
VT Markets was also granted Approved Broker Member status by the Financial Commission, an independent outside group that helps settle issues.
