Why GameStop Corp.(NYSE: GME) stock is falling

GameStop Corp.(NYSE: GME) has reported the adjusted earnings per share of $2.38 in the fourth quarter 2016 , down from $2.40 a year ago, has beaten the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of $2.29. The company had reported the adjusted revenue fell 13.6 percent to $3.05 billion in the fourth quarter 2016 from $3.53 billion last year, while the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $3.12 billion. The comparable store sales declined 16.3% in the fourth quarter.

During the fourth quarter, GameStop has repurchased 1.66 million shares at an average price of $23.56, or $39.1 million of stock. For the full year 2016, GameStop has repurchased 3.01 million shares at an average price of $24.94, or $75.1 million of stock. Currently, there is $170.2 million remaining on the existing repurchase authorization.

GameStop has announced a 2.7% increase of its regular annual cash dividend from $1.48 to $1.52 per share. On March 28th, the company will pay its quarterly cash dividend of $0.38 per common share.

GameStop is continuing transformation plan, the company is also be focused on managing SG&A spend, rationalizing the global store portfolio, and maximizing free cash flow generation.

For 2017, GME expects the earnings per share in the range of $3.10-3.40 for the period, compared to the analysts’ consensus for the earnings per share of $3.69. The company for 2017 expects the revenue in the range of down 2.0% to up 2.0%, to approximately $8.44-8.78 billion, compared to the consensus revenue estimate of $8.64 billion.

In addition, for 2017, the capital expenditures is expected to be in the range of $110.0 million to $120.0 million and 2017 comparable store sales (excludes tech brands stores) is expected to be down 5.0 percent to flat.

In 2017, Game Stop expects that it will open approximately 35 new Collectibles stores globally, and approximately 65 new Technology Brand stores. The company also anticipates that it will close between 2% to 3% of its global store footprint.

GameStop stock has fallen 22.28% in a year (source: Google Finance). According to tipranks.com, 12 analysts has covered the stock while recommend a “Moderate Buy”. GME has an average price target of $27.25, which is a further upside of 13.73%.
