GBP is trying to recover from a 14-month low ahead of UK labor market data

GBP gained against a basket of global currencies on Tuesday against attempts to recover from a 14-month low against USD, making its first daily gain in nine days as the greenback halted against most major and minor currencies. GBP finished yesterday’s trading flat with little change against the dollar, after recording a 14-month low of $ 1.2722 on Friday.


The pound fell 1.8% against the US dollar last week, its fifth weekly loss in a row, as the US dollar strengthened, as well as fears that the UK would break away from the EU without a trade deal.

The dollar index fell about 0.2% on Tuesday, about to record the first loss in four days, with a marked correction and profit taking from a 14-month high of 96.38 points, reversing the rise of the greenback against a basket of major and minor currencies.

Investors are looking forward to important data on the UK labor market later today, which provides strong evidence on the pace of economic recovery and the prospect of raising British interest rates in the near future.

The unemployment rate for June is also expected to rise at the same rate of 4.2%, the lowest level since 1975, and the 3-month average income index for June is expected to rise by 2.5%.
