The British Pound strengthened against the US Dollar on Tuesday, with GBP/USD advancing toward the 1.3470 area after rebounding from session lows near 1.3445. The move was driven by improved market sentiment as investors remained hopeful that diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran could eventually reduce tensions in the Middle East.

Financial markets continued to focus on geopolitical developments, particularly efforts to contain regional conflicts. Signs of diplomatic engagement helped calm investor concerns, encouraging demand for risk-sensitive assets and reducing safe-haven flows into the US Dollar. At the same time, crude oil prices eased, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) slipping below recent highs. Lower energy prices helped ease inflation concerns and supported risk appetite across global markets.
Despite the more positive mood, traders remain cautious as the situation between the United States and Iran remains fragile. Any setback in negotiations could quickly revive demand for defensive assets and boost the Greenback.
On the economic front, US labor market data continued to demonstrate resilience. The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed vacancies rising to 7.618 million in April from 6.887 million previously, significantly exceeding expectations. Layoffs also remained relatively low, highlighting the underlying strength of the employment market despite restrictive financial conditions.
The strong labor data supports the Federal Reserve’s cautious approach toward monetary policy. Comments from Beth Hammack reinforced this view, as she emphasized that labor market conditions remain stable while inflation continues to warrant close attention.
Meanwhile, the British Pound found additional support from hawkish remarks by Megan Greene, who argued that the case for higher interest rates is becoming stronger. Her comments contrasted with market expectations that the Bank of England will keep rates unchanged at its next meeting.
Investors are also monitoring remarks from Andrew Bailey, who reiterated the central bank’s commitment to returning inflation to its 2% target.
Trade Idea:
Buy GBP/USD above 1.3470 targeting 1.3530 and 1.3580. A break below 1.3430 would weaken the bullish outlook and expose support near 1.3380.
