Why HP Inc (NYSE: HPQ) stock is rising

HP Inc (NYSE: HPQ) stock rose over 4.2% on 24th May, 2019 (As of 10:45 am GMT-4; Source: Google finance) though the company has posted better than expected results for the second quarter of FY 19. Free cash flow was strong at $747 million and the company had returned $936 million to shareholders in the form of stock repurchases and dividends.

Meanwhile, while PC growth across the industry was more subdued this quarter, HP had continued to outperform the market and gain profitable share. For small and medium-sized businesses, the company had expanded the AMV portfolio after the launch of HP ProBooks, incorporating premium design and versatility. HPQ has also expanded on the premium offerings with the new Intel-based EliteBook 800, bringing robust security to mainstream business users. This includes HP Sure Sense, which is the new software that harnesses AI to detect and prevent malware threats. For printing, the segment’s total revenue declined 2% and as expected due to the challenging environment, and supplies also declined 3%.In hardware, the revenue growth in the commercial was offset by lower than expected consumer demand. For 3D printing, this month, HPQ expanded the portfolio with the introduction of the most advanced multijet fusion system to date, the Jet Fusion 5200.

HPQ in the second quarter of FY 19 has reported the adjusted earnings per share of 53 cents, beating the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of 51 cents, as per the analysts surveyed by FactSet. The company had reported the adjusted revenue growth of 0.2 percent to $14 billion in the second quarter of FY 19, beating the analysts’ estimates for revenue of $13.95 billion. Personal Systems Group’s revenues, which is the company’s largest segment, grew 5% in constant currency to $8.92 billion in the second quarter, but missed the estimates of $8.98 billion. For the fiscal third quarter 2019, analysts project the adjusted earnings of 55 cents a share and sales of $14.68 billion. The company expects the adjusted fiscal third-quarter 2019 earnings to be of 53 cents to 56 cents a share

HPQ has raised adjusted earnings per share guidance for all of 2019 and expects it to be in the range of $2.14 to $2.21 from a previous range orecast of $2.12 to $2.22. Analysts polled by FactSet are expecting the 2019 adjusted earnings per share to be of $2.29.
