Interactive Brokers LLC has recorded an impressive month in its daily average revenue trades (DARTs) for January. Last month’s DARTs were 43% higher month-on-month and 223% higher year-on-year.
The remarkable figure was realized due to the higher levels of traders’ activities in the market., as some stocks reached new record highs. AMC entertainment and GameStop are two of the stocks that have gained massively in the market, raising the demand in retail trading. The resultant effect is a massive increase in the trading activities on platforms, which has benefited Interactive Brokers massively.
The company provides brokerage services to financial advisors, proprietary trading groups, hedge funds, as well as individual investors.
At month-end, the client margin loan balance stood at $40.8 billion, which is 5% higher than the amount in December and 49% higher a year ago.
Similarly, the average order size for shares stood at 2,326, while it recorded 2.8 contracts for the future.
Besides, there were 6.7 contracts for equity options, while its average commission per cleared commissionable order was $2.44. Within the past three months, Interactive Broker’s S&P 500 has rallied 15% while its stock has gained 37%.
Most new clients are based outside the U.S.
Interactive Brokers also revealed that about 80% of the new registrants on its brokerage platform are not based in the U.S. The company said the trend is a result of the increased number of products available for fractional trading as well as the expansion of mutual funds.
The firm also made headlines recently, after forming an alliance with two local entities to secure its post-Brexit position in the market.
It formed a partnership with a local entity in Hungry and another local entity in Ireland to continue offering its services to EEA clients.
Impressive results across all metrics
Also, the broker recorded total client equity of $313.4 billion for January. This includes the $2.45 gained from client equity after acquiring Folio.
As a result, Interactive Brokers recorded a 78% year-on-year increase in client equity. Besides, it recorded $82.7 billion in client credit for January, which represents a 6% increase compared to the previous month, and a 40% increase for January last year.
Interactive Brokers also said it registered 1.189 million clients in January, with 57,000 of those clients coming from Folio. According to the firm, the metrics are 11% higher than last month, and 69% higher compared to such metrics in January last year.
