Manulife Financial Corp (NYSE:MFC) Profits Fall

Manulife Financial Corp (NYSE:MFC) stock fell 5.16% (As on February 12, 11:13:34 AM UTC-4, Source: Google Finance) after the company reported CA$1.50 billion in attributable profit for the fourth quarter of 2025, down 9% year-on-year from CA$1.64 billion a year earlier. In Asia, the company agreed to establish a 50:50 life insurance joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (“Mahindra”), an existing partner through the asset management joint venture, to enter the India insurance market. In addition, the company became the first international life insurer to establish an office in the Dubai International Financial Centre dedicated to advising on and arranging life insurance contracts to high-net-worth (“HNW”) customers. This strategic move deepens our presence in the Middle East and enhances the ability to address the growing wealth and protection needs of HNW and ultra-HNW individuals in the region. In Global WAM, the company acquired 75% of Comvest Credit Partners (“Comvest”), a U.S. private credit manager with $17.5 billion of AUM as at the acquisition date. the company has also entered into an agreement to acquire PT Schroder Investment Management Indonesia (“Schroders Indonesia”), strengthening our position as the largest asset manager in Indonesia. In Canada, the company launched a simplified specialized lending suite of products in Manulife Bank to streamline the lending experience for advisors serving HNW clients and business owners.

MFC in the fourth quarter of FY25 has reported the adjusted earnings per share of CA$0.83, missing the analysts’ estimates for the adjusted earnings per share of CA$1.06. Core earnings rose 5% year on year to CA$1.99 billion from CA$1.91 billion, while core EPS increased 9% to CA$1.12 from CA$1.03. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected $1.06 per share. Manulife said the increase reflected continued business growth in Asia, Global WAM and Canada. The core EBITDA margin5 improved by 260 basis points in Global WAM. Core revenue for the quarter climbed to CA$2.29 billion from CA$2.14 billion in the year-ago period.

Additionally, the insurer declared a quarterly dividend of CA$0.485 per share, payable on and after March 19, to shareholders on record as of Feb. 25. Manulife also intends to buy back up to 42-million of its shares, subject to Toronto Stock Exchange approval. The company bought back 51.5-million shares under its previous normal course issuer bid, which expires on Feb. 23, at a volume weighted average purchase price of $44.28.
