A recent report reveals that American global payment card service, Mastercard, plans to acquire crypto and stablecoin startup Zerohash.
Both firms are in advanced talks on the acquisition, which is valued at between $1.5 billion and $2 billion. However, when approached for comments on the acquisition, Zerohash refused to comment. “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation about our business,” the firm replied in an emailed statement:
Zerohash Has Raised $104 Million For Expansion
Zerohash offers support to companies across certain business areas, including application programming interfaces for tokenization, crypto trading platforms, and stablecoin support. Last month, Zerohash announced it had completed a $104 Series D-2 funding round to expand its workforce and accelerate product expansion.
The company stated that the funding came at a time when demand for enterprise-grade on-chip infrastructure had increased tremendously. The high demand is driven by new regulatory clarity and increased consumer adoption of digital payments worldwide.
Chief Executive Officer of Zerohash, Edward Woodford, commented on the funding. “This raise, and the caliber of our investors and clients, is a testament to the trust we’ve built,” he said.
Woodford added that the funding round’s success demonstrates the firm’s strong performance and proven track record since its founding in 2017. Zerocash says it wants to be at the center stage of crypto, tokenization, and stablecoins as the market continues to expand in digital assets adoption.
Last month, Zerocash collaborated with Morgan Stanley to launch cryptocurrency trading for the firm’s online stock trading arm, E-trade. The partnership means Morgan Stanley will start offering crypto trading through E-trade in the first half of 2026.
The new service will start with the trading of Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum. However, the firm plans to add other cryptocurrencies in the future.
Mastercard Continues To Expand Its Digital Payments Footprint
Earlier this month, Zerohash partnered with the Fintech firm OnePay to launch cryptocurrency trading and custody services for users on the app. OnePay is backed by Walmart. The platform plans to launch a new crypto service that will enable users to access Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Apart from Zerocash, other companies are quickly showing interest to launch cryptocurrency and stablecoin services. It reflects the high demand for these services by users. On October 9, crypto exchange Coinbase and Mastercard collaborated to acquire fintech firm BVNK to launch a stablecoin payment infrastructure.
BVNK offers enterprise-level infrastructure that enables businesses to facilitate payments with stablecoins. Mastercard has continued to show interest in the digital assets market, and there could be future collaborations as the company expands its digital payment footprint.
