Apart from the list of two new names and two returning names, two names in the list of Indonesia’s Richest 2017 attract attention. They are on the rise in their young age. Young wealth is still rare in the list. Their businesses are booming. Both of them run tech business. They are worth watching in 2018 and beyond.

He becomes a successful entrepreneur at the age of 33 years. He is a co-founder of Go-Jek, which has been in business in Indonesia since 2010. He developed the businesses from a motorcycle ride hailing service based on phone call into an app-based transportation service. Yes, Go-Jek now becomes a main rival of Uber in Indonesia. Its service is not limited to motorcycle ride-hailing services now.

Now, Go-Jek offers car-based transportation service, e-payment service, and food delivery. It even collaborates with taxicab company. Go-Jek is present not only in big cities like Jakarta and Bandung, but also in 50 cities in Indonesia. It is not surprising that the company’s asset increased significantly in the last one year.

In August last year, the company raised $550 million, with total valuation of $1.3 billion. Most of the funds came from private investors. It is reportedly setting a plan for raising another $1.2 billion. Before co-founding Go-Jek and choosing to jump into the start-up world in Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim worked as an associate at McKinsey – a consulting firm. He got an M.B.A degree from Harvard.

Hengky Setiawan is the owner of PT Tiphone Mobile Indonesia, the largest distributor of prepaid phone card in Indonesia. He established the business in 1992 as company that sold prepaid phone cards. Starting from a tiny outlet, PT Tiphone Mobile Indonesia has kept developing.

Now PT Tiphone Mobile Indonesia has more than 450 outlets, with more than $2 billion revenues a year. Hengky runs the business along with his brothers Welly and Ferry. He owns around 50% of the company, which now has estimated asset value of $280 million.

Besides a co-owner of PT Tiphone Mobile Indonesia, Hengky Setiawan has another business, which he has run since he was in college. Hengky seems to love automotive collections. Being the chairman at Aston Martin Owners Club Indonesia, he has 74 Mercedes-Benz, dozens of vintage Vespas, and two Harley Davidsons.

Besides those two names, there are certainly some other interesting names in the list of Indonesia’s Richest 2017. They include Stefanus Lo, who becomes a successful entrepreneur at the age of 50 years. He inherited a family business that sold jewelry and turned it into PT Central Mega Kenca, which is now the largest retailer of jewelry in the country.
