Other major update worth to note are that the group made agreement to acquire Impact Biomedicines, Inc., in 2018 which is a privately-held biotechnology firm developing fedratinib, a highly selective JAK2 kinase inhibitor, for myelofibrosis and polycythemia vera. The group paid over $1.1 billion upfront and up to $1.25 billion in contingent payments based on regulatory approval milestones for myelofibrosis. This acquisition would expand strategic development options within Celgene’s myeloid portfolio of assets. The group is also acquiring Juno Therapeutics, Inc., which is focused on developing innovative cellular immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer. They would pay $87 per share in cash, or a total of over $9 billion, net of cash and marketable securities acquired and Juno shares already owned by Celgene (approximately 9.7% of outstanding shares). With these moves, the group would strengthen their leadership in hematology and oncology as well as advance Celgene’s global leadership in cellular immunotherapy.

The shares of CELG lost over 12.7% in the last three months but rose over 1.2% on Jan 25th, 2018 (as of 11:27AM EST; Source: Google finance).
