The top crypto exchange Binance’s Australian subsidiary recently requested the action in response to which the country’s regulator cancelled its license. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission terminated the financial services-related license of Binance Australia. As a result of this, the crypto exchange will not be permitted to continue its operations within the country’s jurisdiction.
Australian Watchdog Terminates Binance Australia Derivatives’ License
The license was held by Oztures Trading Pty Ltd which was trading under the title Binance Australia Derivatives. According to the directive, from the 14th of April 2023, the consumers will not be capable of increasing their derivatives positions. They will even not be allowed to start the latest positions on the crypto exchange. In this respect, the consumers will have to close the already open derivatives positions in advance of the 21st of April.
The crypto exchange platform will close the rest of the open positions by the due date. The regulatory agency says it has been organizing a directed review of the financial services-related business of Binance within the jurisdiction, taking into account its categorization of wholesale and retail consumers. On the 29th of March, ASIC released a notice related to a hearing to consider if the respective license should be suspended or cancelled.

A noteworthy thing is that the wholesale and retail consumers are classified by the AFS licenses in line with the law, as per Joe Longo (the chairman of ASIC). He added that significant protection and rights are given to the consumers that trade crypto derivatives according to Australian laws dealing with financial services.
Binance Sees a Regulatory Uproar in Different Jurisdictions
As per Longo, these privileges take into account accessing outside dispute resolution via the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. In Long’s words, the agency is continuously reviewing the respective matters to prevent harm posed to consumers. On the other hand, Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has requested Binance and the rest of the foreign entities to offer extra information.
