Ripple Acquires Palisade to Expand Custody Platform

Financial technology firm Ripple announced the acquisition of digital asset wallet and custody company, Palisade. Ripple made its announcement yesterday, November 3, stating that the acquisition will significantly expand its custody capabilities to directly serve the core needs of fintechs, crypto-native firms, and corporates.

An Important Step For Ripple Custody Evolution

Ripple is a company well known throughout the crypto industry thanks to its coin, XRP, which is the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap as of November 4.

As for Palisade, it is a lightweight wallet-as-a-service whose technology combines Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and zero-trust architecture with fast wallet provisioning, multi-chain support, and DeFi integration.

The acquisition will allow Ripple to strengthen Ripple Custody – a service designed for banks and financial institutions that want to safely secure digital assets, stablecoins, or real-world assets. Ripple can now serve a broader set of customers and provide additional use cases.

Palisade will enable secure, fast, and scalable wallet-as-a-service technology designed for quick movement of value and easy integration. As such, it is ideal for high-speed use cases of customers who require a working solution for high-frequency transactions, including on- and off-ramps and payments.

Ripple Is Expanding Its List Of Use Cases For Corporate Clients

Commenting on the acquisition, Ripple’s President, Monica Long, stated that secure digital asset custody unlocks the crypto economy. As such, it is the foundation that every blockchain-powered business stands on, which is why it is central to Ripple’s product strategy.

“Corporates are poised to drive the next massive wave of crypto adoption. Just as we’ve seen major banks go from observing to actively building in crypto, corporates are now entering the market, and they need trusted, licensed partners with out-of-the-box capabilities,” Long said.

She concluded by saying that “The combination of Ripple’s bank-grade vault and Palisade’s fast, lightweight wallet makes Ripple Custody the end-to-end provider for every institutional need, from long-term storage to real-time global payments and treasury management.”

Ripple custody is already well known and trusted by tier-1 global institutions, with some of its clients including Societe Generale, Absa Bank, BBVA, DBS, and others. The service is a vault for institutional crypto, offering a tamper-proof audit trail and cryptographic approval process ideal for compliance.

Meanwhile, Palisade brings a lightweight architecture that combines security features and governance with fast wallet provisioning, multi-chain support, and DeFi integration, expanding the list of use cases offered by Ripple Custody.

Its technology will directly integrate into Ripple Payments and provide the infrastructure needed to enable subscription payments or collection capabilities.

Moving forward, Ripple also plans to continue to enhance its custody solution for enterprise adoption, including integrations with top crypto compliance providers like Elliptic and Chainalysis.
